FUTURE DIRECTIONS TO DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE LONG TERM CARE – INSURANCE & CARE MODEL
In 2000, Japan implemented a mandatory long-term care insurance system. Over the years, several critical alterations were made to long-term care insurance system, particularly with respect to integrated care. A further reform on the scheme is underway on payout to operators as it proves to be unsustainable with an ageing society and shrinking ranks of premium-paying workers that are immensely straining the system.
