According to Nikkei Asia, the ageing population challenges in Japan is resulting in an increase in foreign caregivers and housekeepers to fill the labour shortage. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry projects the industry value at US$5.43 Billion Annually (600 billion yen). More Japanese operators are expected to welcome foreign recruits. In addition, government deregulation since 2015 has resulted in three "special zones" in Japan where foreigners are welcome to fill the labour shortage gap - Tokyo, Osaka and Kanagawa Prefecture.
